Jeff Weist is a professional lobbyist who helps his corporate, government and association clients craft sound public policy and then execute it by working with state and federal legislators, regulators and other policy makers.
Weist developed much of his expertise as Legislative Director to U.S. Representative Dan Schaefer in Washington, D.C., where he focused on economic, technology, telecommunications, utility, tax, insurance, banking and finance issues.
Mr. Weist staffed the House Telecommunications and Finance Subcommittee, where he negotiated significant portions of the Telecommunications Act of 1996, as well as working on major banking and securities legislation. He also staffed the Energy and Power Subcommittee, where he helped author the first national legislation to create consumer choice in the electric power industry. While on Capitol Hill, Jeff led the coalition that secured the first (and last) passage in the U.S. House of Representatives of a Balanced Budget Amendment to the U.S. Constitution in 1994.
Back in his native Colorado after ten years in Washington, D.C., Weist oversaw regional legislative and regulatory affairs at TCI (and later AT&T Broadband), then the nation’s largest cable TV provider. After AT&T purchased TCI, he was promoted to the AT&T Broadband corporate headquarters to oversee national legislative and regulatory issues.
Mr. Weist is currently the Executive Director of the Colorado Civil Justice League, the state’s tort reform coalition, and the Deputy Director of the Colorado Cable Telecommunications Association, and works with more than a dozen other clients to help shape public opinion and move public policy.
Weist is a graduate of Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.
